N-Gage-Thrown out the window

In Handhelds

I still remember seeing this peice of crap on display at my EB. Looks like they have discontinued it. Too bad for the two owners of a N-gage in the world.

Did you even try one for me then 5 mins? The n-gage was good, MP3,PHONE MJPG..And a Gaming machine. There rumors going around about the N-GAGE 3.

I have no clue what MJPG is...

it failed because the screen was too small, you had to remove the battery to change games on the first revision console, "side talkin' " lack of fun games, and cost.

I did see Tomb Raider running on the one I played, and was impressed graphically, but the thing was uncomfortable to hold, and... junk.

Oops I Forgot how to spell the name. What ever it is you can watch movies and such. I think this was for the QD version.

I never really cared for the N Gage. I wanted to like it, but just couldn't.

I kind of knew this was gonna happen it was only a matter of time.

Yeah, I had bad vibes about its future as soon as I started hearing about it. A month or two after launch of the first version I saw one sitting on a display shelf in my local Cingular store and after just looking at it for a few seconds the only thing in my mind was that it would not be around in even a year. Not only was I right but I was right twice! Both versions had failed roughly within a year of the launch of the first one; I would be surprised to even see any in a store now.

Dissing the N-Gage is not the same as dissing Nintendo (something I hate). The Cube alone has sold over 20 million units; the N-Gage would kill its own mother and sexually violate the corpse just for those numbers.

Nokia should be proud, they redefined the word failure for the industry.

Roughly within a year of the launch of the first one, eh? Oct 7th 2003 - late 2005...

2005 - 2003 = 2 years.

Looks like not only were you wrong, but wrong twice!

a brief skim through the wikipedia article says nothing about it being canned, in fact the QD silver was just released in the european, middle eastern, and african markets in September.

And the offical N-Gage website mentions nothing of it being discontinued either, they even list upcoming games...

They are "Quietly discontinuing" it this is where i got the information

Hmm. I have not seen a display for the original in well over a year and I have never seen one for the second attempt that they made. Even the commercials for the damn things have been off the air for a good 6-9 months where I am and I have heard nothing about it from any place I get any news (gaming or otherwise). I honestly had thought it had been discontinued, at the very least it is no longer available where I live.

I played one for more than 5 minutes, and it was crap. Game Machines don't need phones. I do think that Nokia was on to something here, but it was poorly designed.

I guess it was a good idea in theory, but in practice, it didn't work too good.

Okay, I want to clear this up right now. The games for N-Gage were primitive, and most of them just plain sucked.

It was a POS to the extreme. I knew it was going to be a flop. Just like the VB nintendo made.

I know I've brought this up before, but I have to say it again...

Splinter Cell... for the DS... was based off of... the N-Gage version.

...the hell?

Yeah... my buddy bought one of these and thought he was the top sh*t when he got it...
Now he sure looks like a damn fool whenever he gets a call holding that thing next to his ear like a taco...he tried returning it but cingular won't take it back, unless he pays to change it...haha!

The N-GAGE doesn't suck. The first model as its flaws but the QD version is where it shines. So the Games line up may be bad but there Online serVice is far from dead. Besides a Gaming Machine its also a SmartPhone just worth the buy alone. Don't forget you can do many things with the N-GAGE. The N-GAGE reminds me of the Dreamcast many people over looked and they missed out.

'Cept Dreamcast had quality games, and wasn't ridiculously over-hyped as the "Gameboy for adults".

And the most important point, the cost. How much did the N-gage cost on launch? close to $400?

Yes but like all Cell phones there not cheap. If the N-GAGE was not a Cell Phone it would be alot cheaper. Like look at the SideKick. Say if the DS or the PSP were a Gaming Cellphone I am pretty sure they would cost alot more.
