The future of the Game of the Week thingy...

In Games

Until now it was me who chose the Game of the Week.
Now it's up to you. I let you choose.
But only if you do something for it.

Make up a cartridge design in Photoshop (or whatever editing software you might use) and post it here.
To get an idea what I mean, you can look .

Your entry can be serious (designs for games you'd like to see on the NES), funny (preferrably), can contain puns and profanity to a certain degree (use common sense). And it must be NES, because we're the NES-Files here.

Here's a scan of a cart, so you don't have to look for one yourself. Of course you can use other ones, too.

When I like your design, you get to choose the Game of the Week once... or twice..., depending on how many people participate and the quality of the artwork.

Happy photoshopping!

here's 2 that i made awhile ago

Ha! I am going to have to find a gold Zelda cart for this.

Just so you know, I going to participate, it's just a matter of when.

The more people participate the better.
Take your time and make as many as you want.

[Great ideas deleted for spontainous melting, mulching, bleaching, pasting, and recycling into a newer, better idea coming soons!!!!1!^!!!!!!11

Here's one with some actual put into it (not directed at campkill, those are good.)

The Attack of the Quebecois Sepratists : The great escape.
An Essential addition to the Political Series.

The game is centered around escaping from the 7 french separatists which assualt you with combinations of wonderful melodies, accordian riffs, intimidating mellotron, and red laser beams shooting from their eyes.

and a screenshot of level one for good measure

If anybody's wondering, the pictures on the cart is from Harmoniums 1975 album, which was dripping with opposition to the government and the members were sepratists.

haha, thanks man

We have our first winner.
OneGenerationTooLate's entry actually made me smile (but not laugh yet).
I'll pm you.

________This post is intended for learned H2G2 Fans._________

Ok, so after spending about a day making these, I waited a while to see what else might get put up, since nothing did, here's what I cam up with to replace my previous 2-second entries.

The video game.

The game is absolutely based 100% around the book, even though all the graphics are from the recent movie. Yes, I know a lot of things are lost and changed in between, but it all works out. To show you what I mean, here is a screenshot.

In this, movie-version Zaphod Beeblebrox uses a direct quote found only in the book, to speak to a character only found in the book, a methane-breathing police officer.

I did not really manufacture a health bar, but when I thought about doing so, I realised the screenshot was from a cutscene and the heatlh bar and other things of that nature are removed.

Gameplay: Choosing any of the available five characters (Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Zaphod Beeblebrox, Tricia McMillian, or Marvin) you must run around in a platformer using the weapons you pick up in the level. You may use your fists, a towel, a gun, a robotic arm, or an electric thumb. The object of each level is to get through to the end where you must solve a small puzzle to get to the Infinite Improbability drive and be whisked away to the next level. At the end of the game, Earth is replaced, due to the fact that a sequal can never be made. Ever.

Maybe not the best, but I think it came out O.K.

Finally!
I thought you guys already forgot about this.

I like the 42 thing, it made me think a while until I realized it.

Well, I've been damned busy, but I managed to finally make mine.

Seeing the Lego Tarkus put me on a kick, maybe this'll get it out of my system.

I think we have a winner.

damn I love tarkus.

Thank'ee sai.

I don't know about you, but I would sacrifice all of my limbs as well as my manhood if it meant I could see Tarkus and Godzilla fight to the death.

Well, I didn't know whether to post this in the "Fake Games Photoshop" thread or this one, and decided I haven't posted an entry yet, so here goes:

...Sloppy MS Paint writing, I know, but I'm getting ready for work.
I see "bonus items" like light bulbs, free "credit" from the local electric utility company (or magnets to stick on the meter to stop the counters cold), etc. Screwy things like that.
Oh yeah, it's one of those click Photobucket thingies.

So, er... who won this week?

I don't choose winners on a weekly basis.
Every time I see an entry I like the "winner" will get a pm from me.

The participation in this "contest" and in the Game of the Week threadswas good at first, but died down quite fast again.
Do you still want a "Game of the Week" or am I wasting my time every Monday?

I think it's a nice idea, so I'll try a bit longer.
But this time you'll have more chances to participate.
It's been mostly me who chose the games, now it's your turn.
PM me with a title (or post it here) you'd like to see as GotW and I'll put it up.
First come, first served.
By this I hope to get you participate more.

I think we should stick with it. I know it may sound a bit hypocritical coming from me, as I haven't participated yet as such, but my internet acsess has been sparse at best lately due to moving/ownership of a crap computer, but that's all sorted now and I plan to participate. Hopefully, when the holiday season is over (it practically is, anyway) participation will consequently improve.
As for ideas, Duckhunt? Excitebike? Donkey Kong?

I am enjoying the game of the week posts. I had been away from the site for a long time, but once I came back and noticed that this had started, it resparked some interest.

I would love to see a thread on the NWC cart, and I would guess that there are a lot of people that could contribute to that topic.

Other popular choices could be Mike Tyson’s Punchout or Kung Fu.

David & rizz, your picks are on the list.
I saw that participation got better the last days, so I will be happy to do the GotW for longer.

I'm making another one. I don't even care whether it counts or whatever, I just want to make one. I'll put it up soon.

And I nominate Guerilla War, purely because of my beloved 1 against 100,000 game element.

Keep em coming.
Guerilla War is on the list.

What games would you like to see as Game of the Week?
I'm waiting for your choices. Everybody is welcome to submit yours.

Due to massive spam attacks and my master's thesis due in about 3 weeks there won't be a Game of the Week for an unspecified time. I just don't have the time. Maybe it will be up again later.

It takes 10-15 minutes every day to delete all the spam around here, it's not funny any more.
Derek (the site owner) doesn't seem to take care or even notice of any email sent to him about the matter.
Please complain to him if you have complaints...

Since this site has become "Spam Central", how long do you think it will continue to be up, manuel?

I'd like to keep the site up as long as possible.
We must make Derek to put up an effective mechanism to prevent spam.

I think we should only allow new members to post who are approved by an admin or a moderator. This way there would be no more spam attacks. We have so few new members that actually post something, so this method should work very well I guess.

Problem with that setting is that admin authentication sends an email to Derek, who seems uninterested in the site at all, so new users would likely never be approved.

That's bad.

I hope there's something that can be done about the spam problem.

Wouldn't you have the authority to handle matters like that? I think that you should be responsible, since like you said, Derek is pretty uninterested.

Well, I enabled admin authentication. which is pretty much going to disable registration, as Derek receives the email to allow or disallow the account.

EDIT: I guess I receive them too, so perhaps this will work.

Hooray! No more "do you like spandex http:///[ulrs.g[jtoisdalgljsexbuttfucksljlkgoeithklshlkg!!!!"

Although, I found some of those to be humorous. Like the one that said a bunch of 2 line posts "Britney doing a hung guy!!!!" followed by link... Ahh.. those were comical.

I usually don't follow such links, because you're most likely to catch a virus on such pages.

Let's hope the spammers don't come through again.

I receive the mails for user authentification, too.
One was for "xanax-buy-online.com". This is the newest member now... how has activated that one? Was it Derek?

They still show up in the member list, the account is just inactive and can't do anything until we say so.

We need to make that decision based on viewing the profile.

I that so? If so, please ignore the pm I sent about the matter.
Then, that's cool.

If the spammers aren't activated, the problem should be solved.
Hooray!

With the spam problem under control, I think I might me able to continue with the "Game of the Week" series.

All I need is input from you.
PM me the games you want to see as GotW, or post them here.

I, for one, would like too see - Bubble Bobble, Duck Tales and Kid Icarus

I second "Kid Icarus".

Ok then.

I try to reopen the Game of the Week next Monday.
