Dawn of Souls

In Final Fantasy

so, who plans to pick up Final Fantasy I & II Dawn of Souls for the GBA? it is seriously an awesome remake of the original FF, I've played the NES ROM, and I'll be buying it real soon, WELL worth the money to enjoy two classics with updated graphics and gameplay.

all I can say is that everything that was irritating about FF1, is fixed, it plays like a dream.

I saw a commercial, and it looked pretty cool. I don't yet have a GBA, and my time to play games has dwindled to almost nothing these days... Maybe someday...

even if you haven't got the time, grab the cart, it's a great remake, as I said. Since it's for the GBA, you can play any time, the SP fits in any pocket comfortably. I don't mean to pressure, but I'm very excited about the game

I kindof liked Final Fantasy for the nes, but I could never really get into it because it was so annoying and I always ended up getting pissed off. WAY to many random pop up battles that take WAY to long. It does hold some entertainment value to me when you venture through the towns and stuff.

I agree that on the NES it didn't play so smoothly, but DoS is just beautiful.

Hey, where did you find that GBA NES ROM man, I cant find it anywhere

GBA NES ROMs are a bitch to find, I'll try to get you a link but i cant promise I'll find it.

Here you go dude. Just go to NES ROMs, GBA, then to F for Final Fantasy.

WOW!!! The first two Final Fanstasy's on GBA? That is going to be awesome!!! Can't wait to get my hands on a GBA!!!

I'm getting the cart for Christmas, I know this because I witnessed it being purchased today I can't wait to get it in my grubby little paws... the excitement about that is right up there with the excitement about the girlfriend coming over on the 26th

as for the NES ROM, I got it from

ALSO, I read on Nintendo's website that it takes advantage of the wireless ataptor in some way, so that should be very interesting.

This new GBA version of the first two FF's seems to be just about the exact games from the PS when they were packaged together. I don't have them anymore, so I'm not really sure, though.

I've heard that as well, but I haven't played them on the PS

tells most of the info about them, you can decide if it's the same. personally it doesn't matter to me, I love my GBA and I love FF, so it's perfect

Nice link!!! Even with my 28.8 dial-up, I stuck around to check out all the features. The most notable seems to be the Soul of Chaos and Soul of Rebirth extras that are exclusive to the GBA!!! Enemies from FF III - VI!!!

This definately sounds great.

yeah, I can see it consuming a large portion of time. Thankfully the battery life is awesome on the GBA.

My favorite flaw that was fixed was the annoying 'Ineffective' thing. That used to really *&^$ me off! I'm so glad that's over with!

where if you attacked an enemy with two characters, and the first killed it, the second would just attack empty space? I hated that as well, that and not knowing who could use which weapons and armor.

Aaahh...yes, I forgot about that! Random testing, only to be denied. Heheh. I like the new screens included for storyline, too.

only a few more days, then I can waste away endless hours on a good game for once. something I haven't been able to do since FFX (which I didn't want to finish, I greatly enjoyed playing that game.)

On and unrelated note, my next post will be 100, give me something cool to make my 100th post

Another game that I would like to see get the GBA treatment would be Chrono Trigger, that was an awesome game, as well as this strange RPG from Enix for the SNES called EVO. Both incredible games that deserve a second chance at life.

I've never played either of them. If I had my choice of game get a GBA treatment, it'd be that elusive Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake for the MSX. Why in the heck isn't that in North America yet?

I can't say as I've ever played with and MSX. I should look that game up.

If you would play that game, you would see why I hate Snake's Revenge. That game had nothing on the MSX Metal Gear 2. That's because the MSX version was designed by Hideo Kojima. If you'd like a good emulator for it and the NES ROM for that game, I could e-mail it.

Well, I'm on a macintosh, and my video doesn't support acceleration, so it wouldn't do me any good right now, but perhaps in the future I'll get my PC back and give it a look.

Gotcha... let's see, next topic....

so I now have had the game for almost two weeks and am preparing to face Chaos, and thus far, it's been a very enjoyable experience. I'll have to play though the NES version once more so I can truly compare them.

The graphics and audio have been brought up to date, and I'm told that after completing both games and audio player is unlocked, so you can enjoy all of the great music from the games without having to march around to that area.

but of course, I have to play through FFII for that, and I believe it's the Japanese (real) FFII.

I have FF Origins for PSX, and found that the new additions like 'running' and attacking a new enemy after the one you targeted was already dead.

And then I played FF2 for the first time and really liked it.

But anyways, from what I have seen the only difference between Origins and Dawn of Souls besides the new dungeon.
Is there any reason to get DOS for the gameplay if I already beat origins?
Thanks for the input.

DOS was the first ever game I picked up with my GBA. I was exteremly impressed with the game and how they kept to most of the original stuff...HOWEVER, I would have rathered that they not really change anything but add things, cause I don't like how they changed the magic names and some of the cave names like GURGU is now GULG?

A freind in my art class was showing this off, I remember FF2 being the first FF game I ever played

absolute best thing about DOS FF1 was no longer having to purchase your heal potions 1 by 1. my god, i remember the trip to the marsh cave was such a pain.

hey thanx heaps for that link earlier shadow.... i was googling for a reliable link for aaaaaaaages and i finally found it thnx to this forum!

Haha, no problem. It's a good thing you were looking through old threads I guess

Got it, played it, loved it. The additions to the game have made it relatively easier and the graphics better. The currency, "G" has been changed to "Gil" though.

This has been one of the best game buys I've made in a long time, even though for the most part I don't care for handheld games because my GBA doesn't have the light. Sometimes I don't like it when a company totally revamps games, but in this case, it's awesome. I can't make a comparison of FF2, because I haven't finished the original of that one yet, but the changes made to FF1 are incredible, and are badly needed, as well.
By the way, my wife says there's some system out there you can plug GBA games into and see them on the TV. Is she right? Once again, I feel like an idiot for asking this, but I haven't owned any new Nintendo systems since the SNES, and my GBA is an antique by today's standards.

There's a TV adapter mod you can buy for the GBA itself, or there's the . But you have to use the 'Cube controllers with it, unless you import one of those Hori digital pads.

Duly noted, when I get my inheritance
This game just handed my butt to me on a plate yesterday! The "Earthgift Shrine" is not a place to mess with just yet, apparently. I looked up the Dawn Of Souls link you gave me a few weeks ago, Luke, and discovered what they are under Soul Of Chaos. Nice additions!
I had just gotten a suit of armor for the Monk that didn't lower his evade and had quite a nice defense, but the Cerebus wiped my party out.
