In Emulators / NES ROMs

Hey, I just joined here...mostly for the emulation talk. I've been doing emulation for about four years. So far I've collected about 100,000 NES ROMs for various console/arcade platforms. I built a Mame cabinet from an old Mr.Do's castle cab I picked up for 20 bucks in a guys basement, and built an emu computer that I have Hooked up to my 27 inch tv in the living room. I've learned a lot, and love to help out people just starting. I also hope to learn more and although I've been doing this a while, am always ready to listen to others ideas. Mostly, I'm waiting on a working DS emulator...but who isn't?

Hey Saito welcome to the forums man. Wow these forums are growing ALOT since i joined. Hope you enjoy them here because they are pretty friendly. Great mods too. Hope you stay.

Thanks Ninja, yeah the place seems really friendly and layed back..thats why I joined.

I kinda hope it stays small nice and friendly. Overcrowded huge forums can really ...really..not be good sometimes.

But then again, sometimes you get a good bunch and they are OK. It's just that with more members, a higher level of mod work is required. I personally like the feel of the forums, but I would definitely like them to be more active.

Hi Saito, cool you like it here.

I'm not waiting for a DS emulator. I just can't imagine to play stylus stuff with the mouse or something. I think that'd be very uncomfortable.

100k NES ROMs? You didn't play all those, right?

That MAME cabinet thingy sounds interesting. Do you think you could provide us with some pics? Would be cool.

Enjoy the forums.

Hmmm I think after the GBA emulator came out....any other handheld would be very difficult to play emulated. Especially the DS. But then again...you never know. That double screen function would be very hard to pull off.

I suppose a DS emulator would be useful to try out games, but to play them the way they are intended you really need a real DS. I expect using the mouse as a stylus will be similar to using it as a zapper, i.e. not very authentic.

Thats my mame cabinet, it's a lot of fun and my son really loves it!

Good points about a DS emu from everyone....it's gonna be an akward thing to emulate.

About the roms Manuel, it's sort of a way to make up for being ten years old and begging for NES Games at wal-mart...only to be told I'd have to wait. Seems so funny now looking back....games like Pro Wrestling, Super Mario 2 and Zelda seemed like these godlike, untouchable things in shiny boxes promising endless fun if only Mom would buy them, lol. Now I can have them all....MWA,HA,HA!!!! Also I like to see my six year old preferring NES and old sega stuff to the violent PS2 stuff...not knocking playstation at all, but a lot of the games are way too violent for young kids. Luckily, he has 100,000 8 and 16 bit alternatives

That's a nice looking cab.

I relate with everything you say (except for the NES loving child, hopefully that's something for the future ). I remember having only a few prized NES Games, standing in a stores game section, dreaming of a day when I could have a load more. Now I have NesterDC with a complete collection. It's great to be able to try all the games I had read about in magazines but never had the chance to play. But at the same time it's funny that I have the opportunity to try so many of these games now but I'll never have the chance to play them all properly. That's what happens when you have access to a few thousand games at the same time.

Im glad your starting your kid out on the 8 and 16 bit. Those games are alot better than the modern stuff comming out these days. I hope your son appricates the old 8 and 16 bit more. And that is an awsome mame cabinent BTW.

That's a nice cabinet!

And I see you had the exact experience as I. I wanted many games, but couldn't afford too many. And now you can get them every now and there for some bucks.

That's a cool cabinet. I too, now have the chance to experience the games that I didn't as a child, lots of lost time to make up.......
I believe old games will always be popular, as many modern games, despite all the modern technology, somewhat feel lacking in gameplay
Welcome to you, Saito.

I'd be happy to help any of you out with instructions for building your own cab. Pretty much all you need is any video game cabinet, an old computer to stick in the back, an old monitor, an arcade joystick of some kind, some emulators and NES ROMs, some spray paint to spruce the cab up (if it needs it) and if you want it to be loud, an amplified bass tube to cram in the back too. I've got the two original speakers plus a 400 watt bass tube...it gets me evil looks from the neighbors, espeacially during neo geo fighting games. A landed kick sounds like an earthquake when I crank the volume, lol.

Who cares about neighbors?
Some games and movies are only fun with the appropriate volume.

Heh, I always loved the arcade noises, But man when neo geo came out the games were like 200 bucks and the console was 500! I really dont know what they were thinking ranking their prices high like that but man no wonder they couldnt get as many sells as sega and snes did.
