Favorite place to find games

In Collecting

my personnel favorite would have to be the flea market some time people dont know what they have so you can get good stuff cheap.

Used game and book stores all across Japan.
You can find so many cheap and cool stuff there you wouldn't believe it.

I live in Orange County. There's nothing here, and every game shop is being taken over by EB Games... I have to stick to ebay.

I like Gamestation, as it's cheap. For older stuff, EBay is best, although Gamestation does sometimes have cheap NES Games.
I also like gameplay.com it's cheapish with fast delivery.

Ebay should be your last resort. it's extremely rare to even get a game $5 US including shipping on there, and everything is really high. But I have no place to go, except the hock shop, which isnt bad, but they don't sell games under $5.

EB games or Gamestop is good to me. I would use E-Bay, but waiting for my game in the mail gets to me. There is also a risk of it getting stolen or "lost". I'd rather have the game in my hand while I purchase it.

Mine is also fleamarkets. All the games are 5 USD max and sometimes you find bigger deals like a rare one or some old guy who sells his game at 2 USD a piece

I happen to disagree with that. I think ebay is a great place to get games. Just yesterday I got 8 games for $15.98 USD Includes shipping. You just have to play it smart and look around a little for a good deal. The waiting does suck , but it also makes you think if you really want/need the item(s). Versus the store you stand there and look at it for about 2 seconds and then decide to buy it, and the whole way home you debate if it was worth it or not.

And were any of them worth more than $0.04? unlikely... anything worth buying on Ebay goes for retarded amounts, or has stupidly high shipping. it's not worth sorting through the scamming garbage to find that one in ten thousand auction that is actually a legitimately good deal.

I just got Dragon Warrior II for $20 + $5 shipping off eBay. That's not bad considering DP lists it as worth $20, and they say their value estimates are "the absolute rock bottom you can offer a collector for a game without insulting him".

I mean, you can get reasonable deals on eBay. You just have to be patient. For those of us living in small towns and such, we have to use whatever resources we have.

I don't know of any game that is worth only $0.04 (except SMB/Duckhunt)..... And I think that $2/game is actually a pretty good deal for games that I don't already have, reguardless the game.

That depends on the person.... and isn't that what you do in any used game store? Sort through the junk and find the hidden/good stuff? At least on ebay you get a better variety of selections, instead of the local little used game store.

And DNA.. What is DP?

Last year i used to find tons of NES Games at the Flea Markets and Thrift Stores but now i hardly find anything even the gamecrazy i go to has less and less NES Games every time i go so i guess that means eBay.

I think I must defend eBay a bit here.
There are still good sellers out there.
In the last weeks I got several games for cheap and in practically mint condition on ebay (Shenmue 2, Another Code, Sennen Kazoku). And I didn't even have to wait very long for my stuff.
All the games were cheaper than buying them in a store.
Of course I would prefer a good game shop, but with the total lack of one, I have an eye on eBay sometimes.

There are 4 video game shops I know in Munich and all have ridiculous(ly high) prices. They sell you a Metroid demo for the DS for 12$.

Every EB Games and Gamestop around me only have N64 and newer.

Mine stopped carrying N64 games this year..

Ebay should be your last resort.

Ebay usually is my last resort. Although I must say i've never had any problems buying off ebay in the past, and I stick to a tight budget when getting games off there.

I like to go to Gamecrazy, I always bs with a couple of the guys up there.

If I 'm looking for something in specific I will go to ebay. It's hard to find any NES Games around here.

my very own work.

anywhere that sells them cheap

That was just going to be my reply!

Yoy would be suprised how many old school games and sysytems can be found in thrift stores. Check out your local Goodwill store. Sometimes they don't have any games, just check back every now and again. It's where my boxed FF1 came from.

Is that Orange County in California? If so check out Laura's House in San Clemente (benefits battered women) sometimes has 50% off everything sales.

Ebay rocks, the secret is to always check the shipping and buy in lots if possible. When looking for specific GB games I've found it cheaper to buy someone's whole collection of system and games for $30 then to buy individual games.

Here in the southeast (not sure how far they are spread now, but they started in Florida I believe) we have a store called Rhino Video Games that has a solid collection of 8-bit games. They also have a buy 2 get 1 free deal on NES Games which is nice.

I also use ebay a ton. The trick is to check the shipping and buy lots of games. You can usually get games for $2-3 each if you buy them that way. Ebay is a great tool for retro game collectors if used correctly.

Ebay should be your last resort.

It usually is, but I've gotten great deals on ebay

ebay aside, I'd say a certain flea market here, or the only good gamestore we have (which, we have 2 of, located across the city from eachother), so, 3 great places to buy games here, basically. thrifts used to be good, but one chain never has anything anymore, and the other one is horribly overpriced. $6 for smb and loose genesis sports titles? pass

where in Florida do you live? we don't have any Rhino Video Games around me (Southwest Florida), that i know of atleast.

I actually live in Georgia, but I thought I had read that Rhino was started in Florida and was spreading around the southeast before going nationwide, so I checked around and found their website.

Their corporate headquarters is in Gainesville, and they have a list of store locations on their website. Not sure if any are near you, though.

Me too. Its a good thing I'm going to Sioux City for two weeks . Tech school starts on the 13th of FEB. I'm definatly going to have to check this place out!!!

Hey LordJair, what are the $prices on NES Games??

Pawn shops, little local videogame shops, thrift stores, etc. I mostly prefer thrift shops (Salvation Army, etc etc) because they generally don't know what they have and sell games in packs of 5 or more for CHEAP. Pawn shops occasionally have good deals, but they also tend to check eBay for their prices, so some titles have ridiculous price tags (for example, one local shop has a copy of North & South (which , with no label, and a giant HOLE in the cartridge, as if somebody hit it with a hammer, for $30..."as is". Haha).

I really hate eBay, but a couple tricks can help you find the occasional good deal. Misspellings is a big one. Search for incorrectly spelled titles (Nintnedo, Tengin, etc) and you can sometimes find auctions that other collectors are missing.

damn, the closest one is in Tampa, and that's a good 2, 2 1/2 hours away.

There prices are pretty decent at the one near me, but you really have to use the buy 2 get 1 free deal to make it work. The average price for a common game is like $3 and a semi-common is $5-$6. I usually get 3 $5 games for $10.

Of all the stores that sell uded games (gamestop, eb, etc.) they have the biggest selection of 8-bit (the one here anyway), so that is why I prefer them. They literally have 5 times as many 8-bit as the other stores in the area.

Well, about the 15th or so, I'll report on the selection and prices of the one in Sewer City...... I mean Sioux City. Has anyone ever been to Sioux City, IA?? That town is a rat hole!!!

Actually, I spent most of my childhood there (I was born in Cali). Yeah, basically the whole state does suck. All we had to do when we were growing up was skateboard, videogames, drink beer, drugs, and doing random stupid things. And what's worse is the cops!! I think they might have the worst Cop/people ratio than any other state, at least my home town Spencer Ia does!

correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't that any city?

of course i've only done the bolded ones.

Got around to checking out Rhino games....... AWESOME!!! These guys are just about dirt cheap!!!

They had an excellent selection of older systems/games. I wish I had one of these in Sioux Falls, everywhere here sells NES Games at $5 NO MATTER WHAT GAME IT IS! And the buy 2 get 1 free makes it even cheaper. I bought three NES Games and I paid about $4.23 or something like that.

Awesome store LordJair! I'm jealous.
