At least I got the NES

In Collecting

I was at a garage sale the other day, and saw this big box of what looked like electronics. When I looked, it turned out to contain an NES, a Genesis, an SNES, three Genesis games, eleven NES Games (admittedly, none of them were very good), two NES controllers, one Genesis controller, four SNES controllers, and an SNES splitter. I asked how much for the Genesis, and she told me it was twenty bucks...

...for the entire box.

Naturally, I pounced. I asked her about it, and found that she knew nothing about video games, and that she just had that stuff lying around for three years, her son didn't play any of them anymore (he has a PS2 now), and she wanted it GONE. Being the unscrupulous, pennypinching *** that I am, I lowered the price to fifteen dollars and took the box home.

There, I discovered the following:
-the NES was not just dirty, it was grimy. REALLY grimy. Games don't work on it, and neither does a nintendo cleaner. I'm going to have to open it up and clean it manually.
-the genesis is missing one cable. ONE CABLE. Where will I get one specific Genesis cable? I'm not going to buy a whole 'nother genesis.
-the SNES is busted. BUSTED. some inner piece is broken.

Ah well, so it'll take work on my part. I just needed to rant a little.

Oh man, that sucks. You could buy the Genesis lead from Ebay probably, people usually sell the odd lead etc. on there. If the NES doesnt work after being cleaned I suppose you at least got a load of controllers etc that you can sell on and get some, if not all, of your money back.
Good luck with it

Oh my god

I have bought things from ebay that come dirty like that too it's disgusting, if i was going to sell something i would atleast clean it first.

Well, about the Genesis A/V cable...

if you have some soldering skillz you could mod it to use standard RCA cables...I've done it with several consoles, it's pretty simple.

if you'd like instruction on how to do it, feel free to PM me, or let me know in the thread.

15 bucks for all of that is still a decent deal, regardless. You can't find an NES at a pawn shop around here for less than $40, no joke.

Atleast you didn't spend more than $20 on the box.

She didn't say that everything works, right?
So in my opinion you can't call it a rip-off. You had the chance to look at it and that's it. You bought it, take the responsibility.

I think 15$ for a box of game stuff isn't bad.

I got scammed too. Last weekend I found a playstation, controler, memory card and games for only $20 at a garage sale. I bought. What a mistake. the games didn't work. the system was missing a wire, and the controler operates wierd.

Sorry to hear about that man. I hope you can somehow trade it all in and get one that works. No one should go without a nes

Yeah, I have 1 NES system that works 3/4 of the time. I do have to clean my games with q tips frequently though. I LOVE NES!!!!

Good news! I got the NES to work. I opened it up and wiped most of the grime off, then applied alcohol with a Q tip. I closed it back up, and it works.

I was also up in Oregon the other day visiting my dad, and managed to find a huge bin of old gaming stuff at the Salvation army. I got a Zapper gun and Nintendo cleaner (the Zapper was for three bucks. THREE BUCKS!). They had three Genesis', but NONE of them had the cable I needed.

So, considering that I now have a working NES with Zapper up at my dad's house in Oregon (a thing for which my dad is grateful; he always loved Scheherazade) and I spent a total of thirty one dollars (and made a small profit off of the SNES stuff, since the SNES was busted beyond repair), and the fact that the lady never said that they worked, I'm changing the thread title.

Man thats great. Im glad you got everything working again with a zapper included. Wish i had a working zapper. While i play good ol Duckhunt other people in the world play MADDEN UGH or some ps2 heh.

That sucks bro, next time ask if the stuff works

did you bother to read the part where it cost $15!!!!!!?

that doesn't suck, stop complaining!

The Genesis likely works, it just needs a simple cable, or a simple mod.

My question is...
Was the garage sale in slum area??? I find that the slummier areas have less "cared for" items.
My other question is...
How can people be that filthy that consoles get that disgustingly grimey????? Do they play in the mud and dip it in the toilet or something??!?!
We got an atari 2600 and 30 games for it at a garage sale and we had to spend a day cleaning all the yuck off of them. Even had to open up the console and joysticks. It's like someone blew cigarrette tar into them. At least now it works most the time!

That's a question I ask myself sometimes... what the hell do people do with their consoles?
All the hardware I bought new still looks like new. But sometimes I see used hardware in stores...

Nah, it wasn't in a slum area. And since the lady told me the kid now has a 'Cube and a PS2, AND he had the NES, Genesis, and SNES, I figure he was some spoiled little twerp who didn't give a flying **** what happened to his stuff. I mean, the little moron somehow busted something INSIDE the SNES. What'd he do? Start kicking it when he couldn't beat Contra III?

I have thrown games, Controllers, other things around me in anger of stuff like Contra or Certain others. They never broke and This kid probably hated Contra III Because the GRaphics !

Damn stupid kids

Execuse me .

Execused.

It's always okay to write the truth. ... damn stupid kids...

I sometimes threw controllers, but never games (too preciuos) or even consoles.

The games I throw are the ones I know won't break because they suck , I have bad luck so if i tried to destroy a crappy games It would be fine but If i try a great game for instance Zelda (Don't worry I'd never do such a thing)It would maybe snap or something. but its Nintendo there compatability is awesome to test the GBA they got to Flushing it in the Toilet before and it still worked.

Yeah, nintendo games are surprisingly sturdy. As seanbaby once said of that lovable heap for the NES, Gilligan's island, "It took three solid whacks with a shovel "

Man, seanbaby's brutal. Check out his nintendo page sometime.
