Where to go to get games for a good price?

In Collecting

I was wondering where some good places to get NES Games are? I've tried pawn shops around here but they want $5, $10 or $15 bucks for games that arent even compleat or even rare. SMB/DH was taged "rare" and priced at $9.50 USD. I couldnt belive it. So anyone know someplace else I could try?

Well, around where I live, the pawn shops refuse to even have NES Games! Consider yourself lucky in that aspect. I do, however, have a couple of stores that are close enough to my place to drive to that I can get games from. The names of the stores are:

Game Exchange
Game Crazy
CD Land
Game Stop

Game Exchange is it's own little place, but I'm sure there are alot of them out there. I actually like that place the most, but the manager there is an idiot who only PARTIALLY knows what he's talking about. Anyway, the selection of games there is the best I can find, and the prices have been steadily dropping, it seems.

Game Crazy is a store that is part of Hollywood Video, and doesn't really have a whole lot, but sometimes they get mixed up w/ what's hot and what's not. So you can get more rare games for cheap sometimes.

CD Land is a place that has more than just video games, but trades and sells all kinds of electronic related items. It has lots of different games, and I find it to have the most/cheapest peripherals for retro gaming junkies! Not a bad store at all!

... and then there's Game Stop. I've actually only been to this store once, and didn't find anything younger than the N64. I've been told by others online that their Game Stop carries old NES Games, though. It's a store that is chained up with Blockbuster. I did get some cool stuff from there, though.

You can try checking around locally to see if you have any stores that go by those names. You never know, you may have been missing some NES Games that were only an hour-or-less drive from your own house! Hope this helps... anyone else have any names for him to try?

hey, thanks. I can find good shops on ebay but thats about it.

we have a a few places in Oregon. and I'll rate them on Coolness. (K-rad Scale Based on 10)

- Awesome place. Has the basic systems. NES,Atari,Genesis, Gameboy/Gear and all the new ones.
you can also buy VHS,DVD,CDs, Tapes, and Vynil (I love Vynil) there.

K-rad Scale: 8- Awesome.

: A place at the mall run by a few really nice Asian guys.
These guys sell just about any game system they could possibly get, save for the real rare (FDS rare)systems they get once in a great while.

K-rad Scale: 10- K-RAD!!!

- Your Basic Salvation Army type Thrift Store. Can get things if you look REEEAAAL hard.

K-rad scale: 4: Gnarly

- two words: Corprate Bastards.

K-rad Scale: 1- lame.

I'll Tell You when I find more.

In the summer i check rummage sales, here there is a day in july i think when everybody has their rummage sales on the same day, its a good day to find stuff.

Oh my god, I cant belive I never thought about that! ppl here have yard sales all the time. Im sure out of the whole town theres one set of old ppl who dont know how much the games are worth!

(off topic story): one time I was at a yard sale and it was this old lady and she had the original Gameboy with 32 games in the plastic cases, wall addapter, something you put over the D Pad and A and B buttons to make it a joystick and seem arcade style, Nintendo brand carrying bag, this thing you slide over the screen to make the pic. bigger and had tiny mini speakers on the side you pluged into the head phones thing and made it louder. she wanted $30USD. I told her I'd give her $10USD and she said okay!!! I put it on ebay the next day and got $120 bucks off it when it ended!! lol old ppl, they're so funny.

I love looking for games at Funcoland. Here where I live they have crates full of NES Games and other older gwmes for older systems.

My GameExchange Rocks the Manager rocks he is a really cool guy and he gives me Great Deals!

May as well throw my two cents in..

I'm from the chicagoland area and spend a significant amount of time in northwest indiana. There are a few places that I consistently go.
Game Exchange (atari to xbox) - this place is in the city across the street from maurice lenells cookie factory. Good selection of EVERYthing, prices are by the digipress.com book. This is the store that some guy on there has. It's on Harlem. just get off 90 onto harlem, i forget East/West.

Ebgames & Gamestops - majorily limited supply and outrageous prices. Although, have buy one get one deals every once in a while

Music Recyclery - used to be good, they have a decent selection but can be way overpriced. 1942 was 14.99 when i stopped by there last and bandit kings of ancient china was 45.

Disc Replays are an ok spot- they have competitive prices and accessories if you ask, however, I have been to a few that don't carry anything.

I haven't had much luck with suburban and a few chicago pawn shops, but I have had great luck with northwest indiana ones...It's just finding the right one.

Garage sales are great this time of the season. Usually very fairly priced.

Game Crazy's are my personal favorite for chain stores. The Schaumburg, IL location closed for remodelling, but there is a Golf mill one and one by that store I mentioned early by the cookie factory. They have a good selection and very fair prices.

Eb games is a pretty good place. They sell alot of old NES Games pretty cheap there and have good deals as well.

^Yes, I bought Ninja Gaiden 1, and 2 there for 5 dollars each. Also, they had Dragon Warrior there for 1.50, but someone bought it before me .

Look up all the pawn shops in your phone book and hit them every couple weeks. Some real gems turn up in those sometimes. Hit all your thrift stores and stuff too. My friend just recently picked up 3 Atari 2600's for $7.50 total at the Salvation Army.

I can find Super Mario Bros./Duckhunt at the Game Stop by my house for literally 50 cents or 1 dollar. I personally like Game Crazy alot. They are always nice and seem to know what they are talking about, and they have everything organized nicely as well. Games aren't just thrown around in random crates like they are at Game Stop.

I like game stop. sometimes they have things that are way overpriced, but usually i can get good deals there. besides, the one near me is one of the few places i go to that knows jack sh*t about games.

one clerk at EB games once tried to tell me that i needed a really high end computer to play warcraft III... my computer is an old POS, and it plays it fine, along with a bunch of other games.

Well, today, I just heard EB games was bought by Gamestop, so you can cancel out EB.

I am highly dissapointed w/ the Game Spot near me. Oldest system they carrey is n64.

"Gamespot", or "Gamestop"? Anyways, my Gamestop only carry's N64 and up. (meaning, like Ver., thats the oldest system they have)

Lol you know im not sure and i dont plan on going back hehe it was pathetic.

Around where I live, only 2 places really sell NES Games at all, and I've pretty much cleaned them both out.

One is our local pawn shop, it used to have NES Games all going for 2 bucks a pop, but the owner prices against eBay now (how else would he be so close to prices?) and games there are a bit high now. I only ever bought 7 games from them before they went price-comparing, all the same the selection was mediocre.

Then there's the Record Rack, a secret little gem nestled in our downtown. It sells ALL XBox, PS2, and GCN games for $9.99 flat. Used CDs, Playstation & N64 games are $7.99, SNES Games are $5.99 and NES Games and VHS tapes are $3.99 each or 3 for 10 bucks. They've got an awesome selection there, however I've more than cleaned out the place of NES Games, and in a town of roughly 10,000 restocking on used NES Games is few and far between.

Where I live theres only 2 chain stores around and when they do have NES Games they are overpriced and have no selection.I usually get my best deals on sunday at a flea market.Every week this 1 guy guy has about ten different games i get for $1 each.Yesterday I got a complete nes with 39 games 10 of which had boxes and manuals for $40.
